Carry On Films

We sat down to dinner this evening and couldn't believe that all we could find to watch was "Carry On Matron". Admittedly, it was only the last half hour, but believe me, that was more than enough! I really can't believe that we were entertained by this stuff, although I did find myself snickering a couple of times. I have to say, in it's defence, that there was no bad language to be heard and only slapstick violence. On the other hand, the film was quite liberally peppered with innuendo and sexual inferences, which unbelievably, we were allowed to watch as children. This would no doubt be frowned upon in today's PC age, and would only find it's way onto the mainstream channels after the watershed.

It's sad to see how few of the stars from those Carry On films are still alive, the obvious one that springs to mind, is of course Barbara Windsor.
I can remember watching a series of "Doctor" films, that must have been around at about the same time. They always seemed funny because James Robertson Justice played a character called Sir Lancelot Spratt (you know what it's like when you're a child and you hear a silly name). Of course, the only real reason for watching, was because Dirk Bogarde was in them and he was just soooo dishy to look at!
